Here you can find a list of the common Remus mysteries in the series so far. The original mystery questions were compiled and donated by Sidda. Since then, some have been removed, others added, and all the rest have been updated. Note: If you have not read the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th books in the Harry Potter series, this section contains spoilers.

Remus Mysteries

Where did Remus live before OotP?
Within DH, we discover that Remus was living with his wife, Dora, at her parent's home. Two years previously in OotP, he lived at Grimmauld Place with Sirius before having to move out in HBP to live 'underground' with other werewolves as part of his duties for the Order. Nevertheless, this doesn't tell us where Remus lived before the events of OotP. We do know that he had his own residence given that at the end of GoF, Dumbledore tells Sirius to "lie low at Lupin's for a while". However, what kind of residence this was or where it was located, we do not know.

Why did Sirius suspect Remus of being the spy?
Within PoA, we find out that Sirius suspected Remus of being Voldemort's spy within the Order. The question then arises as to why Sirius suspected Remus above Peter or any of the other Order members. Was Sirius simply blinded by prejudice given that most werewolves align themselves with Voldemort? Or was there some other reason for him to suspect Remus above everyone else?

Has Remus ever killed someone?
In the pre-wolfsbane era, werewolves were actually pretty dangerous (and they still are if they forget to take their potion). In full werewolf-mode Remus could easily kill a person. He is supposed to be locked away at full moon, but who tells us that he hasn't escaped once or twice? Could this be his terrible secret?

Where are Remus's parents?
We haven't heard anything about his parents yet. We do know that he is a half-blood and that his parents 'tried everything' to cure his lycanthropy. However, given his current state of poverty and the fact that he chooses to spend his Christmas holidays at Grimmauld Place (in OotP) and at The Burrow (in HBP), this would suggest that they must all be dead or that he has lost contact with them. The question then arises as to how they died or why contact was lost.

Who was Remus's father and what did he do to offend Fenrir?
Leading on from the last question, Remus tells Harry in HBP that he was bitten as a small boy because his father had offended Fenrir Greyback. Two questions lead from this then. First, who was Remus's father and why was he mixing with Fenrir in the first place? Second, what did he say or do to offend him?

How did Remus survive the years after James and Lily were killed, Sirius was in Azkaban, and Peter was presumed death?
He must have been very lonely, because he lost all his friends in one day and being a werewolf it must have been difficult to find new friends. Did he find new friends, did he stay with family, did Dumbledore or another Order member help him out, or did he survive on his own?

What exactly is Remus's profession (if he has one)?
In fifth year, Hogwarts students are confronted with choosing a future career. We don't know anything yet about what career-path Remus chose for himself (assuming that he was allowed to choose). Some fans think he might have studied to become a teacher, because when we first meet him in PoA, he already had a briefcase with the title 'Prof.' preceding his name on it in peeling letters (suggesting it had been on his briefcase for a while) and also because teaching seems to come naturally to him.

Has Remus been in other jobs before he came to teach at Hogwarts?
We know Remus is very poor and that it is hard for him to find work, but it would seem impossible to live without an income for a whole twelve years (and it is doubtful that the Wizard World has unemployment benefits). Even if he did study to be a teacher after leaving school, he evidentially didn't get employment at Hogwarts until PoA. As Hogwarts is the only wizard school in the UK, this would suggest that in order to earn some money, he must have had some other jobs for at least short periods of time. The question is: what kind of jobs did Remus have and why did he leave them (i.e., did he quit himself or was he forced to leave)?
