Getting A Six Pack: 5 Exercises You Should Be Doing

Getting a six pack or ‘abs’ is the dream of many when it comes to fitness. A six pack shows that you have worked your core muscles to the full. Indeed, getting rock hard abs is a sign of great discipline and determination. After all, getting one is not easy. If you are serious about spotting washboard abs, try out these exercises.

Sit-ups are the most common form of exercise when it comes to working the core muscles. What’s great about them is that you can perform sit-ups even at home. All you need is a flat surface and a thin mat to lie on. While lying on your back, lift your upper body to a 90-degree angle. You can keep your legs flat on the ground or you can keep them folded at the knees. Lower your upper body back to the ground and repeat.

Crunches are relatively easier to do compared to sit-ups. However, they achieve the same goal which is compressing the core muscles and spurring their development. There are many variations of crunches such as the reverse crunch and the V-crunch. The most common is where you lay down on your back and bend your legs at the knees. With your palms on your head, lift your chest off the ground slightly such that only your shoulders leave the ground. Lower yourself back to the ground and repeat.

Body lifts

Body lifts are also great for developing abs. They work by focusing strain on the midsection area. To perform a body lift, you will need a strong overhead bar that can support your weight. Hoist yourself up using your arms and get your head over the bar. Lower yourself down and hoist your body up again without touching the ground. For an added challenge, attach a weight to your waist.

Planks too can help you get a shredded stomach. When you perform a plank, the abdominal muscles are forced to act as the main anchor holding your body up. This is how this exercise is able to grow your ab muscles. To perform a plank, lay face down and keep your body from touching the ground using only your toes and your forearms. Keep your forearms right under your chest and hold that position for as long as you can.

In your quest to get chiseled abs, don’t forget to do cardio exercises such as jogging and running. Cardio exercises will help you burn fat so that that layer of fat around your stomach wears away to reveal the ab muscles you have been working so hard to develop.

Six pack abs are the aesthetics sign of true fitness. With these exercises, you too can stand tall and proud.
